THINGS TO DO

The Barrington Boar

A traditional Somerset pub in the pretty village of Barrington with exceptional food. The Barrington Boar is an award-winning restaurant & pub, offering a warm welcome, refined Modern British dining & a deep connection with Somerset’s rich culinary heritage.

Starling Murmurations

Truly a wonder of the natural wild, thousands upon thousands of starlings migrate from Northern Europe and spend the winter months on Shapwick Heath and Ham Wall RSPB nature reserves. At dusk every evening they settle to roost in the reed beds on the levels and put on the most amazing display. You can also go at sunrise to see them take off. Make sure to call the starling hotline to ensure you go the right spot. Seasonal between December - March. Check info. here

Basket Making Workshop

Learn how to use Somerset withies (willow) to make a basket. The Willows and Wetlands Visitor Centre is the home of P. H. Coate & Son, founded by willow grower and merchant Robert Coate in 1819, and still run by the Coate family today. Book a workshop here

The Wyndham Arms

Traditional Somerset pub

The Bridge Bakery and Café

Our absolute favourite bakery. Hands down the best sourdough around (and the same as the loaf provided in the cabin.) Perched on the edge of the River Parrett in Langport, it's the perfect spot to start you exploration of Langport. Bakery, canteen and coffee shop.

HOLM Somerset

Holm is the best place to eat in Somerset. Inspired by nature and the surroundings in the beautiful South West of England. Their focus is on provenance, sustainability and warm hospitality. Outstanding modern, local food and drinks in a casual yet refined environment. In the pretty village of South Petherton only 4 miles away.

Brown and Forrest Smokery & Shop

Just over the moor in Hambridge is Brown and Forrest smokery. For over 30 years the master smokers have been smoking the finest hot & cold smoked foods, including smoked salmon, trout, duck, chicken & delicious cheese. Buy smoked goodies online or visit the Hambridge shop. There is also a café.

Temperley, Somerset

Alice Temperley grew up at the Burrow Hill cider farm few fields away from Craftsman's Cabin and over three decades has created the eponymous and illustrious Temperley London. With a unique blend of British eccentricity, a strong signature aesthetic, ethos and bohemian spirit, and an iconic tribe of muses, the independent brand has reached almost heritage status. Visit the Temperley HQ at Phoenix Studios, in the main square of the picturesque town of Ilminster. The brand’s design atelier, training workshop and flagship store, offers both current collections and archive pieces, as well as bridal and is an exclusive brand outlet, where you can sift through past season treasures. Check opening times and get directions.

Cider Bus Saturdays (April-September)

Wander up to Burrow Hill cider farm and enjoy a slice of Glastonbury Festival. The iconic cider bus serves refreshing ciders and cocktails that you can enjoy wandering their orchards. Live music appearances from local bands and there is usually (not always, check on Instagram @somersetciderbrandy) a foody offering, everything from stone-fired pizzas to mouth-watering Mexican from Basement 17 Tacos.
